Theme Hospital
RRP: £19.99 Theme Hospital for the PS2 Review date: 2010-02-21 Rating: 6 out of 10
The game was ordered for my ten year old daughter who had previously been playing Theme Hospital on our home computer but the game wouldnt work on our newer laptop so we bought one for the PS2 instead. Its okay but doesnt have some of the features that are on the computer game and it is harder to play using the controls on the PS2 as opposed to the computer. The game in itself was in good condition and was good value for money but was disappointing.
ReviewsTheme Hospital = Good funReview date: 2008-03-30 Rating: 8 out of 10This game is not the best graphically desgined game in the world, but heck what a game. You get to set up and run your very own hospital, from the staff to where the raditors go. It is fun and free with lots of unique and extremely funny illnesses.
Once you have completed this game, you can easily just play it again and has quite a long shelf life.
I would defo recommend to anyone who likes this sort of game, along with the likes of theme park, rollercoaster tycoon or sim city.
It's a classic that everyone should own!Great idea that gets frustratingReview date: 2006-08-29 Rating: 6 out of 10If you have played Theme Park, which was made by the same company, the gameplay of Theme Hospital will be familliar to you. You build different types of hospital rooms how you wish, hire and fire staff and then cater for the needs of patients with various wacky diseases, all whilst keeping an eye on your bank balance.
The procedure for treating patients is simple. They queue up at the reception desk, are sent to see the GP and then directed on to various diagnosis and treatment rooms. When a member of staff is required to attend, a female voice on the tannoy (which gets very irritating!) will call for them. An alert doctor or nurse will walk their automatically, but you will often end up dragging them our of the staff room.
The game is comprised of several levels, with the game getting harder as you progress. New diseases will arrive, for which you need to research new treatment, queues get longer, your unhappy staff will threaten to quit and machines will start breaking down due to earthquakes. I bought the game not long after its release and have still not managed to complete it!
In order to complete a level you have to cure a certain amount of patients and keep your money and reputation high. This is quite boring once you have had enough of watching the funny-looking patients and strange treatments.
At the end of each level you are given a password, which when entered at the start menu will take you to the beginning of the corresponding level. You may instead use your memory card to save the game in mid-action. Remember, however, that all PS1 games still require the PS1 memory card to save when played on a PS2.
This being a PS1 game, the graphics aren't great but the sound effects are amusing, particularly those from a patient using the toilet! Another issue with it being for Playstation 1 is that I have encoutered slowdowns, occasional crashes and glitches when playing it on my PS2. Maybe it doesn't run well on that console, or maybe I just need to give the disc a good clean!
Since there aren't many games of this genre around anymore, I would recommend Theme Hospital to fans of Theme Park and Sim City.Furstrating but addictive!Review date: 2004-05-06 Rating: 8 out of 10If like me you like these strategic games then this is the game for you. I have to admit I cheated and skipped a couple of the levels as they were so frustrating. Many times I would scream at the screen to move the things were I wanted. Plus the middle to late levels take so long. Definately a fantastic upgrade to Theme Park & World. Graphics, effects and sounds excellent.BrilliantReview date: 2004-02-18 Rating: 10 out of 1012 levels, gradually increasing in difficulty, give you the skills needed to maintain your hospital. You gradually increase the profitability of your hospitals until you have a super operation. The hiring, and firing, of staff is good fun whilst the building of rooms and placement of corridor objects is also enjoyable. You will never manage to stop playing this game as you will never achieve the perfect hospital. You find yourself trying to replace rooms in order to increase efficieny and profitability. Downsides are few but there are a couple. The loading times, especially on the later levels, are very long - but don't give up and reset the console! Also the levels do feel a bit samey later on, but as you get more involved in the level each hospital becomes more unique. Frustrating, but clever, strategic fun.
